Katie Firth is an emerging Australian artist based in Sydney. Her practice brings a sensitive, observational approach to an expanded interpretation of landscape—one that moves beyond place as something fixed or purely visual, instead becoming a memory, a feeling, a trace. Moving between observation and abstraction, she draws on personal histories and remembered environments to reimagine the land as something both experienced and internalised.
Her work reflects the quiet, often overlooked spaces of transit : a walk, a commute, or the pause before arrival, where routine intersects with personal reflection. In these moments, landscape becomes both external and internal - a shifting terrain shaped as much by memory, emotion, and perception as by physical surroundings. Familiar streets, passing glimpses, and repeated journeys are translated into layered compositions that evoke atmosphere and psychological resonance.
Katie’s paintings affirm that ordinary, everyday experiences carry emotional weight and meaning. The paths we travel daily quietly contribute to who we are becoming. In her work, commuting is not simply a physical act of movement, but a mental and emotional space where thoughts drift, anxieties surface, and possibilities begin to take shape.
Her work invites viewers to pause and reflect on their own experiences of movement, memory, and the evolving relationship between self and place.
Katie completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at The National Art School and a Bachelor of Education at The University of Melbourne. She has been a finalist in the Salon des Refusés in 2023, 2024, and 2026, and has exhibited widely in group exhibitions. Her work is held in private collections across Australia and internationally.
